5 Essential Care Tips for a Healthy Bearded Dragon

Bearded Dragons are one of the most popular reptile pets because of their calm nature and relatively easy care. However, like all reptiles, they require specific conditions to stay happy and healthy. Proper care goes beyond food—it includes habitat setup, handling, and daily monitoring.

1. Provide the Right Enclosure:
A healthy dragon starts with the right tank size. Young dragons can do well in smaller tanks, but adults need at least a 40–75 gallon enclosure. This gives them space to move, bask, and explore.

2. Maintain Temperature & Lighting:
Bearded Dragons are cold-blooded and rely on external heat. A basking spot between 95–110°F and a cool zone around 75–85°F is essential. Don’t forget a UVB light, which helps them absorb calcium and prevents metabolic bone disease.

3. Handle Regularly but Gently:
Dragons are docile, but they still need to be handled carefully. Gentle, frequent handling helps them become tame and bond with you. Always support their body fully to reduce stress.

4. Watch for Health Signs:
Look out for signs of illness such as lethargy, weight loss, or changes in appetite. Early detection can make a big difference in treatment.

5. Keep Things Clean:
A clean tank means a healthy dragon. Spot-clean daily, remove uneaten food, and do a deep clean every few weeks to prevent bacteria buildup.
